Outstanding service and super quick delivery.
The system worked on the first try as expected. I thought the feed delay could be annoying because is digital and all, but it feels instantaneous!
Really good picture quality! Fast development on new softwere! Fast shipping!
I finally got to run the walksnail system. I did 4 packs through the mk 5. It’s been maybe 6 weeks since I flew a quad? Nuts!! I’m rusty…
Good: 1080p is nice. I think the image is more crisp and I can observe finer details and more distant/smaller objects. This is going to be nice for chasing an RC plane. It is not that far off from what I remember with my DJI goggles though.
Onboard DVR is really cool but I was out of memory before my 4th pack was empty. So maybe 20 minutes or so (I was mostly cruising so the packs were 5-7 minutes each). If you want to seriously use that feature, gotta do frequent data dumps…
Bad: stock antennas suck. My range at 1200 mW was definitely less than what I remember getting from DJI. Of course walksnail has RP SMA connectors so I can’t just pluck my antennas from my DJI goggles. I’m waiting for adapters….
Bad: despite being on the latest beta firmware, fast/low/close work seems to blur more (I don’t think I was in focus mode). So what they say about it handling compression worse than DJI seems true still.
Overall impression: I’m happy with the give/take or good/bad interplay but unless you want the specific features walksnail offers (the list isn’t short either) I would not switch based on image quality. DJI 720p is still awesome for cinematic viewing though walksnail is a bit better imo. DJI handles close/fast work better imo. For me chasing planes and cruising around - it’s a perfect fit and mostly upsides (especially after I make a good set of antennas and adapt my pepper box to the other side).
Coming from DJI , there is still work to do but this system is the only competitor to the Chinese giant , and the best FPV pilots oriented system In the market.
Goggles quality is top , and vtx is performing very well.
Betaflight OSD is there finally without hacks or tricks. If you want you can connect an external monitor to the goggles or even to a friend with analog goggles if he has hdmi input !( all fatshark hdo and HD2/3 got one )
This are the key point for me, I will post video asap on my YouTube channel if anyone is interested in an honest review please follow me !
